So from my last post, I had a few request asking me to explain what trolling/ what a troll is.
Trolling has been around for close to 6 years now. The origins or trolling stems from the message board 4chan where a lot of internet meme's comes from.
Since then trolling and the its usage has evolved from user to user, from community to community. Broadly a troll is anyone who posts/ writes inflammatory content. From there the meaning of trolling changes from person to person.
I learnt my trolling from the BA forums, so a lot of my experience comes from there. Trolls only grow from experience, and with practice, trolling and one's competency at it grows.
Trolling, when used effectively, is an effective tool both on the internet and in real life.
Trolls often say things with the sole purpose of causing argument. To be effective, trolls writes things which needs a basis of truth. Straight fiction is ineffective as the person getting trolled will easily be able to identify the troll and act accordingly.
As such, a troll's purpose is to provoke a response from the person getting trolled. The person getting trolled, must identify the truth behind any statement and its purpose.
Other forms of trolling include but is not limited to manipulation, sheer being mean and developing the persona of a troll. In all of these the person getting trolled needs to find the truth behind a troll attempt.
One of the more general rules of trolling is a stronger troll can tell when a weaker troll is trying to troll them. Of course there's exceptions.
