Short 10 - Why We Take The Harder Road

More than ever now, we start making plans for the future. Why do we keep making these plans? By now we probably all know that even the best laid long term plans have rarely come to fruitition. We put all our heart into the one road map for the future and label it “The ideal map”

Yet, rarely do we travel these roads right to the end. Instead another road presents itself, or the road has a block in the middle of it or even you realise that the ideal road is just too fraught with bumps that you decide that the end isn't worth all that effort.

The best roads in life are sealed and lead somewhere. The best roads in life are even, preferably straight, well lit at night and littered with rest stops. However, often we choose the roads that are filled with bumps, which bends with no knowledge of what really is ahead. Often the nature of these roads means that as soon as we start we can't stop, essentially there's no rest stops.

Why do we choose to continue making these plans? Why do we always choose the harder road?

Plans gives us a sense of direction as to where we're going. It gives us guidance so that we know where we're heading. Whilst often we may never get there, the journey itself is always hard, so in the end we know that we don't wonder what could have been. Perhaps the best reason for taking that road at all.
