Hey Guys! For anyone who blogs and follows others on the blogosphere you will have noticed quite a few blogs, especially Australian blogs commenting on Charity fatigue.
Charity fatigue is not a new term that has gained prominence over the last few year. With the disaster in Japan, the Australian public has been asked once again to dig deep into their pocket to donate to once again another charitable cause.
Already, there has been signs that aid organisation have not been getting what they usually get. After the floods in Queensland and Victoria, A major earthquake in New Zealand, coupled with a period of large consumer spending during Christmas, this is perhaps understandable.
By any stretch of the imagination, the world as a whole, is in a bad way. The media is littered with troubles both at home and abroad. In Melbourne University, a rally was recently held regarding the federal government review of University fees. Victoria is considering another multi-million dollar ticketing service. Aboriginal males in Australia has a life expectancy that is 11.5 years shorter than their non-indigenous counterparts. One in four people world wide lives in absolute poverty.
Everyday, we are asked by both society and by ourselves to consider these facts.
Natural disasters will always happen. Poverty will always exist. Discrimination will always be a factor of life.
And it'd be easy to turn a blind eye to all this. To ignore the person at the door knocking for money. It'd be easy to turn of the TV whenever a new report from Japan comes in.
The world will never be fair. But we must never stop believing it can be.
