Straya

Hey guys! Well for all my readers who aren't from Australia, I've just enjoyed a long weekend thanks to Australia day. It was quite an amusing weekend, which has been very memorable.

On Australia Day proper, I was fortunate enough to catch the train home. In that one carriage, a staggering amount of Australian stereotypes hit me. It was an assault on every sense. There was munt on the floor, men wearing singlets, people drinking VB and drunk men sleeping off the day's work on strangers shoulders. Straya. Admittedly they might have been coming from Big Day Out, but still makes your proud to be an Australian. Right?

The city was absolutely packed that night. Federation square was filled with people cheering Li Na in the final for the woman's final of the Australian Open. Seriously, that was a weird moment for me. That and the moment when Australian were cheering for Federer and not Tomic. I don't think that's ever happen in Australian sport; cheering for the non-Australian.

Once a year, being a bogan or being an Australian is generally accepted and its quite cool. For 1 day, once a year, being a stereotypical Australian is normal.

Am I the only one who find this strange?
