Good People, Good Choices

Hey guys!

Too many people read this. So now, I actually have to have some sort of quality control and as such its taking a much longer time for me to to think of and properly flush out ideas now.

When given a choice between a right choice and a bad choice/easier choice, we choose the better choice because we believe that it makes us better people; and in a lot of ways it does.

That choice is what society expects of us and what we've been grown up with. In all the heroic fantasy novels, the hero always makes the sacrifice, makes all the difficult choices against the bad choices and all in all stands up for what they believe to be right.

That's what I thought everyone should be doing anyway. That's what every good person's duty is right? To always choose the right choice.

Sometimes it can be a little disconcerting, how hard that can be. A million and one problems and you can only solve the one problem. That one problem is always the one that takes all your energy and resources to fix. Sometimes, you see other people and they couldn't care less about the million, but rather the 10 that effect them.

Sometimes, there's something you really want but you can only get it if you don't do the right thing. Sometimes, you have to screw over your friends and your values for that something.

In DotA one of the symptoms of a new player to the game is the refusal to abandon your team mates. You see your teammates die and you run in after them because, if he's going down you're going down together. You being there literally does nothing for the team. But I guess that's slightly different, I mean its not exactly real life.

I'm sure everyone can think of those circumstances where they've haven't made the morally right choice. In the end the fact that we're happier about it, probably outweighs that need to think that we're a bad person.

And when I say probably, I should have written needs. (Probably should be needs.)

When good people, who always choose the good choice, choose the morally wrong one; that's the hardest choice. They know its wrong, they will feel bad about it and they understand that no one will understand (or forgive them), least of all themselves.

That's just it, the bad choices can easily be justified by yourself. You can justify all your own bad decisions, but when other people can't, then you're missing something When all your peers, friends and family can all say, we understand, then you probably haven't made a morally bad decision. The problem occurs when they can't understand why when good people decide to ignore their values and morals. Then you know you've done something wrong.

Doing something wrong doesn't mean that it shouldn't be done though.

Sometimes we need to sacrifice our own values so that we have that chance to make the right choices down the track, and sometimes, that'll have to be enough. For good people, not following duty is harder than following.

Then why do I still feel so bad when I don't.
