I Want to Be, Passions

I want to be a knight
Living in a castle, never to come out

I want to be a ship
Sheltered in harbor, anchored always

I want to be a child
To be cared and guided wherever I go

I want to be a bird
As a pet, safe from cats and traps

I want to be just me
Without the expectations

I find posts comes easiest when my mind is most at ease. And right now, its anything but.

This exhaustion from everything gets to me sometimes. Everything and nothing, nothing and everything combining together to become something convoluted. I am tired from it all.

But, I shall try.

Obviously thank you to all my friends who came around Saturday night, particularly those I highlighted in my facebook post. It was really nice seeing everyone in the same room. Its always difficult hosting; I don't necessarily enjoy it, but I know my friends do and I think that's reason enough to have one every now and again.

Every year, the differences between people and their personality goes increasingly obvious. Lately, I have been more abrupt to my friends;  a little more impatient and more crude with my tone. I of course apologise for this.

I spent a couple weeks watching The International, both the group stage and the main event. Its really nice to have a passion that makes you more relaxed and something you can go back to, that you know that when you have a bad day you can go back and enjoy yourself.

Anyway, watching The International (TI), it struck me how removed the two worlds were. The world of DotA 2 is so far removed from the public that we can have a 18 million tournament without people hearing about it.

And its not so much that people actively avoid it. Some, a lot of people genuinely don't like video games and what it entails. However, at some point, we need to understand that we don't need for everyone else to enjoy everything you enjoy. You don't need the world to understand why you love your passion. Maybe, just being OK is enough.

The community in Dota2 have developed into something huge. It started at the very bottom and now we're here. We're on the very cusp of being accepted by the masses, yet we need to ask, why? Will acceptance by those who clearly don't have the same passion as its current fans add or detract from the community. To me, all they will do is dilute and divide the community.

This is a long analogy but it is applicable to our own lives. We don't need everyone to understand who we are. Nor do we need to explain why we enjoy our passions so much.
