It was the spring of 2004. I was in year 6 and in my final year of primary school I've spoken a lot about my days in primary school especially the extraordinary group of friends. I think by the time I heard this song I had already known that I would be going to a private school and that I would be separated from my friends for all of high school. Being a guy, I never told them I was sad for leaving, but like everything else I did I took it with bravado and valor. I just pretended it didn't dwell on mind at all. Which it did. A lot.
As the year drew to a close, the school ran this ridiculous idol thing. I think American Idol was out that year. And that's when I heard this song.
You know those songs that you hear for months on end. That you can associate an entire holiday with, an entire period with or just a specific event. Well this song did it for me. With this song came the memories, the really hot days, the months of tigi, the final graduation disco and staring at someone's back wondering what could have been instead of paying attention in the final assembly in that ridiculously carpeted hall.
I don't really know why, it was probably my first exposure to so called "rock music." I didn't know the lyrics then except for the main line of the chorus.
I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly
I'll do what it takes til' I touch the sky
And I'll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won't forget all the ones that I love
I'll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
--"Breakaway", Kelly Clarkson
IN OTHER NEWS
UMAT was ridiculous. Easier than I thought it would be, but still ridiculous.
Debating against SAC's first team tomorrow. Yay.
I'll have some awesomes on my Saturday blog. I might do another short Friday if I can be bothered.
