Hey guys! Another week and another post I think. I think I've finally been to all my 21st this year, so its nice to finally get a break from it all. I've started my end of year post and I've done a lot of the end of year video.
You know what I don't understand? Heroes and role models. I mean, so many times in primary school we were asked to write to our Olympic heroes and as we grew up, a lot of the speeches that we heard were about the heroes and the great influences that they had on everyone. Like really, what were we supposed to be inspired to do.
When I had to write about my heroes I would usually just make up some someone, famous and just make up something about them. Now I'm not saying everyone does this. Its highly possible that there are people that are really inspired by famous people or just great people.
But it does raise a question, how were we suppose to be inspired by these people. Are we suppose to bask in their achievements and their stories then be suddenly motivated to do better? Like, are we suppose to
I just don't really understand how that works. Having heroes and everything, are we suppose to mimic them and hope that one day we're in the same position as they are? Are they suppose to influence the choice that we make so that we're more inclined to be like our heroes?
I also don't understand how some heroes are inspire other people. Great leaders and great sportsmans lead lives that are so removed from ours, it seems strange that they we could relate to them. Sure, I guess we can learn from hard work and dedication paying off.
Nelson Mandela died over the last week and as such Facebook and social media was strewn with dedications calling him an inspirational hero. Not to take credit away from Mandela and his achievements, but really I feel a heroes that are closer to us, that actually inspires us to take action because they are someone who is similar to what we're doing and someone who was related to us.
