Gymming Again, Why Something is Better than Nothing
Hey guys! I have a bit of time before my next class so I thought I would try get something good out.
Going to the gym is possibly the most intimidating thing in the world. I mean obviously you go there to work out and get fit. As soon as you rock up you're confronted with literally a million machines and another million ways to injure yourself if you don't do something correctly. Literally, mess up something for a brief second and bam, injury for the next week or so.
Then there's all the other people who are working out with you or around you. Because, really, I need more reminders about how unfit and ridiculously skinny I am. You see everyone else using those complex machines, doing weights that are literally as heavy as you, whilst you're struggling with like. A tenth of your body weight.
That's a wonderful feeling really.
Booked tickets back to the motherland a few hours ago. So I'm going to be away for the better part of July. It'll be good to see the relatives and meet my cousins.
Alright, so I was with a friend the other night and the topic of foreign aid came up. Perils of being friends with a economics arts major I guess. I have no idea why I thought I knew anything about the issue given, you know, engineering .
Anyway thats not really all that important.
OK foreign aid is probably pretty important, but in the context of this story its not really.
When given a choice between not doing anything and doing something postive but ineffectually we should do something positive, because doing something positive is better than doing nothing at all.
I mean, when saying something is ineffective is really just a great reason to do nothing. Maybe it is a reason and not just an excuse. Its really easy to go, yeah, that's not the best way to do it, I'm not going to do anything about it. Its NOT like dishwashing. I'm not going to put those dishes in the dishwasher, because there isn't a full load. I mean, fair enough right in some cases. If you have enough utentensils and stuff to last you until you get a full load, why bother.
But, you if you don't and you only have one set of utensils, then you'll probably never get a full load. Then you should do something about it.
It easy to make a decision when its about something so trivial. When the problem is just slightly more complex then you wonder how important how effective something can be done.
When we put in 100 dollars into a collection tin, how many dollars do we expect to reach the intended recipients. If its say, less than 50 dollars, would you want to keep that 100 dollars for yourself? Probably.
But there's half the problem, thats 100 dollars that will never see the insides of a collection tin. I mean, by all means if you think you can better help charity by keeping the 100 dollars than putting it in that tin then, keep it. Maybe you can find another collection tin at the end of the street. They'll probably get 60 dollars to the intended recipient.
Again there's half the problem. You don't know if they'll get 60 dollars to who you want. You don't even know if there's another collection tin down the street. All you know is that today, whats in front of you is a collection tin and a chance for you do something good, right here, right now.
You could wait for to do something better, or you could do something now.
Its the safer option, but its not every day you get that option at all.Take the option now.
There has to be a better way, is true for a lot of things, but unless you know there is a better way right here, right now; just settle for the oppourunity at hand. Otherwise, you're just using ineffective as an excuse.
