Like dragons
Demons grow if we them
They burn and consume
In flame and in heat
And when they're not
They lie
Festering and dormant
And like dragons when we master them
We become invincible
Fearless
Arrogant
Before we fall again
Hey guys! Yeah, I'm a little behind on this blogging thing hey. My bad.
Anything new in my life? Not a great deal, just the usual assignments, going out and stuff. The lads went out the other night and had one of those ridiculous unplanned night where we essentially gambled and got free ice cream from the profits. It was really good seeing everyone again. I played beer pong and burnt a large amount of wood fire before getting my drink on.
That's right I say getting my drink on. That was really nice, especially that giant bonfire; burning things is absolutely amazingly enjoyable. I might be a pyro maniac.
I played a few games of chess at the state library. Again, yeah, I know its weird, but its a really good environment to force yourself to concentrate on something and have absolutely no distractions around you. Pretty chuffed that I beat one of the regulars there, who trashed me last year.
Chess is a battle of wits; it is a mental challenge between you and the person opposite you. You use the black and white pieces to attack and defend as you see fit.
When you're playing from behind or when you're playing someone you're not so familiar with you're faced with a choice. Do you make moves, thinking your opponent has a better plan and try preempt them, or do you trust yourself and execute your own plans?
If we don't trust ourselves and play defensively, we don't improve. Watching and reacting means exactly that; we have that opportunity to do something more. However, if we play too aggressively, miss things and just get tunnel vision.
In the end, when it doesn't go our way, we call them mistakes.
There certainly isn't a right way to play chess. People do have their own style and if it works, why don't we just stick to it?
It can be hard, to not understand the other play style. I cannot play that defensive style of chess. Its difficult for me to play or do anything passively.
I do however, understand that style and that's what is important.
