Nerds Slacktivism and Elections

You know what I hate? This trend of calling things nerdy, or geeky and thinking it's positive or inclusive. I mean it's great Game of Thrones is considered nerdy (now). "Oh yeah, I do nerdy things all the time like watch Game of Thrones "

I turn around and go, I like spending my Friday nights with my mates playing DotA. And everyone goes omg that's so nerdy. AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I HAVE TO DEFEND MYSELF

Things I do, I do for fun. They are just that. Fun. Going, oh yeah, Jackson likes doing all that nerdy stuff like playing computer games, programming and chess. That's not a compliment or a neutral comment. It's derogatory. It doesn't make me feel comfortable when my hobbies are referred to as nerdy or geeky.

Oh, look at me, look how trendy I am! I watch Game of Thrones Yay, I can call myself a nerd and still judge everyone who plays computer games by calling them a nerd.

You can't have a cake and eat it too.

Brexit, everyone's posting all the memes about England screwing up and the likes. Posting memes about something that you originally knew nothing about, or that really doesn't affect you in anyway is the worst(best?) example of slacktivism ever.

I'm so meta, I know about Brexit! It's so dangerous in this day and age where people just feed of each others dank memes, not forming their own opinions about anything of relevance.

Election this Saturday. Guys, when you vote this Saturday, be informed. I'm not going tell you who to vote for and advertise policies and things like that.

Elections is the one time the Australian public gets a real chance to shape society and have a say what goes on in the next four years. In school we are taught the importance of the democratic freedom, freedom of speech and how great freedom in general is.

WOW JACKSON WHY DON'T YOU TONE DOWN YOUR MURICISM DOWN A LITTLE.

You get the point, though. Brush up on how to vote. Know who's has which policies in place and  decide on which issues affect you. Be involved in the society that you live in and understand the world around you. The senate this year is completely up for grabs. This literally means that the seat you live in does not matter. Hence, regardless on whether you think your seat is marginal or safe, your vote does matter.

Just take it a little more seriously than a sausage sizzle opportunity.
