Hey guys! Midyear results came out today. I didn't open mine because that's just how I roll. Pretty sure I failed everything, so (Y) there.
So I played hockey for the last time for my school. On the hockey field (and the sporting field for that matter) there's quite a few chances to be a hero. There's a thing in hockey called the short/penalty corner. It's a bit like a corner kick in soccer but in professional standard its a lot easier to convert. Well I'm always first runner, the guy who puts his body on the line against the opponents first hit on goal. Basically my job is to run out, (screaming) throw your stick down to either deflect the ball out or block it completely and clear it out.
I also try and pray as I'm running. Thinking about anything besides the extrodinary unsafe act you're about to do is extremely helpful.
That's the plan anyway. Whether you get hurt or not really depends on how lucky you are and whether youre concentrating. If you let them get that hit off unhindered, your team is pretty certain to be a goal down. (and angry at you.) :@
I let one get through in my final game. Good thing I nailed (lol nailed) all my short corners so team wasn't mad at me.
That much.
It's funny, you always dream of being a hero. But really, being a hero comes down to how well you've prepared yourself to be a hero. How well you play when you are ordinary.
It's the same with these mid year results. What's coming is coming. You really can't be much of a hero now and so I didn't open mine. Having said that good luck to everyone! I hope you got the result you wanted and if you didn't keep your head up.
I also got to lead my first and only war cry. Wow was that an experience. Didn't really know the words, but if nothing else Thirds hockey have a real sense of team and backing each other up. Making noise appears the only real purpose in the warcry, that and piss off the other team
ITs an awesome feeling being part of a group. Perhaps its part of the human condition to be part of something bigger. Even if it is the lowest senior hockey team in the school.
